Chicago Bears who have disappeared this offseason: Darrynton Evans, RB

Here is a guy who I thought would be a lock to make the final roster when Ryan Poles went out and signed him. However, now I am not so sure. Darrynton Evans was claimed off waivers prior to the 2022 NFL Draft and Trestan Ebner looks to have pushed Evans not only down the depth chart but likely off the roster.

Evans is technically under contract this year and next year, but he doesn’t have any dead cap if released as all of his guaranteed money was paid by the Tennessee Titans. Evans is a former third-round pick of the Titans but hasn’t been able to establish himself as he dealt with injuries. Now healthy, it just appears that Trestan Ebner is going to make the better fit on this rebuilding Bears roster.

Darrynton Evans hasn’t been talked up at all in practice and he looked very pedestrian versus the Chiefs’ backups on Saturday. With the Chicago Bears likely keeping fullback, Khari Blasingame I don’t see how Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles justify keeping four other running backs. I also don’t see how Trestan Ebner is placed on the practice squad since he also brings special teams value to the team. This leaves Evans as the odd man out.
