Chicago Bears who have disappeared this offseason: Dieter Eiselen, IOL

I remember hearing how many Chicago Bears fans thought Dieter Eiselen would make the starting offensive line this year. Many mentioned him taking over at the center position. Others talked about how he’d be the starting right guard when the Bears missed out on Ryan Bates. I think this is just the typical Bears fan being overly hopeful in the offseason.

If we pay close attention to Eiselen, it was fairly obvious that he’d never have been a starter on this offensive line — or any offensive line for that matter. The only thing he had going for him was he is the size that Ryan Poles seems to like for his offensive linemen. The problem is, that’s all he has going for him. He’s not athletic enough to be a starter in the league and he lacks the manhandling strength that some less athletic offensive linemen have too.

Looking at the depth chart, Dieter Eiselen might have a hard time making the team. The only reason he may stick around is the fact Doug Kramer went down with a season-ending foot injury. Even then, it might be tough seeing the new regime has no ties to him and drafted four linemen this year. Eiselen will need to really show something or count on more unfortunate events to the guys in front of him if he wants to stick around. Moving Teven Jenkins to guard makes it even more likely that he is shown the door. Maybe he sees the practice squad.
