Don’t look now, but the Chicago Bears might actually be a tough out in 2022. The team’s 27-11 victory over the Seahawks featured everything from the good (Justin Fields) to the bad (Matt Eberflus’ challenge flag throwing skills) to the downright ugly (the ESPN MNF commentary booth). It may have only been the second preseason game, but these two teams are clearly going in opposite directions.

It will take Seattle some time to recover from the losses of Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner, as they not only covered up significant warts on their respective sides of the ball but also set a high standard for everyone else to follow. Meanwhile, Chicago might be closer to fielding a competitive roster than the national media (cough* Dan Orlovsky cough*) would like to admit.

The Chicago Bears remain undefeated with preseason victory over Seattle

The Chicago Bears controlled the tempo of the game from the very first snap, and their performance should at least quiet those who proclaim the team will be picking first overall in the 2023 draft. Like any preseason contest, the game’s outcome is insignificant. However, the exhibition was still crucial for players on the roster bubble and those looking to gain experience in the system and make a positive impression on the coaching staff.

There were several significant takeaways from the contest, and the game will significantly impact the coaching staff’s evaluation of the players, especially with only one exhibition contest left. It is tough to assess how good Chicago can be this upcoming season, but the foundation of the roster is beginning to take shape, and it seems the team is in good hands.
