Chicago Bears rookie safety, Jaquan Brisker had surgery and is week-to-week

In his preseason debut, Jaquan Brisker was all over the place. He made some fantastic plays, including one series where he basically handled the Chiefs on every down, including a near interception on third down. He was fantastic and looked like everything we expected due to what we have seen and heard coming out of Chicago Bears training camp.

Unfortunately, it appears that Brisker hurt his thumb during the game. No one knew the extent of the injury, but he did not practice leading up to the preseason Week 2 showdown versus the Seahawks and he also sat out the game. Reports came out yesterday though that Jaquan Brisker had to have surgery on his thumb. We don’t the details, but Matt Eberflus is hopeful that he will be ready by Week 1.

Is this going to be similar to the Lucas Patrick situation? The key difference is that Brisker doesn’t need to be concerned with snapping a football. However, it will be more difficult for the rookie to snag interceptions if he’s dealing with a thumb injury or wearing any type of restrictive mechanisms on his hand. Hopefully, the injury is clean and the team can get Brisker back at 100% prior to the start of the season.

What could be another big storyline, but we don’t know all the details yet as Matt Eberflus wouldn’t expand on it, is Khalil Herbert being carted off the field at practice yesterday. Hopefully, this injury is not as bad as it sounds.
