4. Julien Davenport

Julien Davenport may be the most surprising name to see cut. That is not because the team was expected to keep him on the 53-man roster, but rather because he had seen a decent-sized role in the preseason.

After Larry Borom, the team went to Davenport as the backup right tackle last week. He was third in line behind Borom and Jenkins in the first game. Still, he had left and right tackle versatility and was ahead of some names in the pecking order.

At the same time, he knew he was not going anywhere. If Riley Reiff holds down right tackle, Larry Borom will be the swing tackle and vice versa. Even the versatility of Davenport was not as valued in Chicago as these two.

This also opens up snaps for Jean Delance in the preseason finale. The rookie UDFA has nine snaps in two games, and the team should want to see much more from him before they even commit a practice squad spot for him.

With Davenport out of the way, and Jenkins at right guard, you should see Delance for the entire game after Borom checks out. That is a benefit to cutting the veteran right now.
