Breaking down what Adam Schefter really said about Chicago Bears and Teven Jenkins

The Chicago Bears have been rumored to be trading away every asset that Ryan Pace brought in. That’s right, get ready for them to trade away Justin Fields, Darnell Mooney, Robert Quinn, Eddie Jackson and a large handful of others. Ryan Poles is rumored to be taking anything from sixth-round draft picks to a week’s worth of Portillo’s beef and hotdogs in return for these players. Alright, hopefully, you picked up on the sarcasm here.

This time of year is full of speculation. What we do know is that Roquan Smith requested a trade through the media, but that all came to an end when Smith returned to practice and stated he is going to play on the final year of his contract. He also stated that negotiations are over and he is focused on the 2022 season.

Adam Schefter “thinks” the Chicago Bears will still trade Teven Jenkins

One other player who was drawing interest from teams a few weeks ago was Teven Jenkins. Teams clearly saw blood in the water when the Chicago Bears had Jenkins demoted from starting right tackle to backup right tackle and then demoted again to the point where he wasn’t even practicing. It was all very strange, but now Teven Jenkins looks to be the starting right guard ahead of veteran guard Michael Schofield. Hey, this is the “best man wins” mentality and I’m here for it.

Well, hold on just one minute. Even with Teven Jenkins slotted to be the starting right guard in 2022, one person came out after the fact and continued the rumors about a possible trade.

Well, let’s break down what Adam Schefter actually said on the Peggy and Dionne show.

"“I still think he’ll be traded,” Adam Schefter said of Teven Jenkins. “My belief is that they’ll wind up trading him before the final roster cutdown day or right around there, if not before. My guess would be is that he’s not a Bear this season. And we’ll see where they move him, and what they get for him. It won’t be what they invested in him. But it’ll be something. … Or maybe they’re stuck with him and maybe they want to look at him at other positions. But I think they’ll move him, that’s my guess.”"

When I read his words, it’s all about what he thinks versus “I’m hearing” and that is a big tell in my opinion. He’s literally guessing based on information he was probably hearing a few weeks ago. We don’t know how Ryan Poles and the Chiefs graded Teven Jenkins coming into the 2021 NFL Draft. The Chiefs did not have a pick prior to the Chicago Bears trading up for Jenkins at 39 overall, but who is to say that had he fallen, the Chiefs might have taken Jenkins over Creed Humphrey — the center they drafted with the 63rd-overall pick.

If you listen to him speak on the situation, he does sound confident in his guess. However, that’s all it is — a guess. We have Peggy Kusinski saying it is still on the table and now we have Adam Schefter guessing it will still happen as well. Guess what, none of them seem to have inside sources on the matter and these quotes all came after the Thursday night preseason game. Jenkins looked solid at right guard for a guy who has never truly played the position.

My best guess is that Adam Schefter is wrong and Teven Jenkins remains with the Bears. It makes zero sense to me that the Bears would give up on a second-round pick in just his second season. Especially, after seeing him commit to that right guard spot just a week ago.
