4. Defensive Line Depth
The interior defensive line will need to be sorted out. The team seems to have their starting two interior lineman set with Justin Jones and Angelo Blackson. However, all of the depth behind them is questionable.
Khyiris Tonga is the third in line, but he is a nose tackle only. The rest of the depth could compete for a fourth or fifth spot on the interior.
Names that are currently on the depth chart include Trevon Coley, Mike Pennel, and Micah Dew-Treadway. Pennel and Coley are veterans, and both serve different roles. Pennel is more of a nose tackle who clogs holes and was signed as Tonga insurance. That is his path to the roster.
Coley is more of a three-technique who can move around, which may give him a leg up in Pennel. Then, there is MDT, a UDFA from Minnesota.
He is a lock for the practice squad but will have to beat out two veterans to make the 53-man roster. That will be worth watching.
