10 Chicago Bears with a ton to play for in preseason finale
9. Chase Allen
While Darrynton Evans may end up on a different team just a week from now, Chase Allen likely has two options, one being the 53-man roster, and the other being the practice squad. When you break down the Chicago Bears depth chart you could make a case for him being on either, as he is right on the edge.
With that in mind, his performance in the Bears’ final preseason game could go a long way. The team is going to keep three tight ends for sure, and the question is whether Allen should be a fourth. He has arguably played as well as James O’Shaugnessy in the preseason, but O’Shaugnessy is a veteran who likely has his spot locked.
For Allen, it is probably more about Jake Tonges. Tonges is a fullback and tight end, so his versatility could push him over Allen. Allen is a bigger pass-catching threat, but with Tonges being there to catch flares from the backfield, it becomes more of a debate.
From there, it may come down to special teams. Here, Allen has 25 snaps and Tonges has 22. Which one is more effective, and who they lean to as a starter on special teams will go a long way.
