The Chicago Bears will have to cut the roster from 80 to 53 after the preseason finale. However, with the practice squad being expanded to 16 spots, there will be 69 players, if the team fills the practice squad entirely with Bears players.
So, at the very least there will be 11 players who are cut and do not return. Which players may be making that decision the easiest?
10. Nsimba Webster
Nsimba Webster is a player who has been on the roster border for most of the summer. The issues that Dazz Newsome had in the return game kept Webster on the roster a bit longer. Beyond that, because Velus Jones has been missing practice, Webster has been needed in that area.
However, when the entire roster is healthy, it is hard to see him being included on the team. He does not provide much of anything as a wide receiver.
As long as Velus Jones is healthy, he is overkill at the return spots, but beyond Jones is Trestan Ebner, and Khalil Herbert who could help in the return game.
Webster is a veteran that Ryan Pace acquired around this time last season. He lasted through the first two rounds of cuts, but was helped by injuries, and will likely be let go shortly after the Chicago Bears final preseason game. This is a player that is hard to see sticking on the practice squad because he is a veteran who Ryan Poles has invested little into.
