Projecting the Chicago Bears final 53-man roster before cutdown day
The Chicago Bears have some solid depth at offensive tackle now
On the outside of the line, we have bookend fifth-round draft picks. Larry Borom is the starting right tackle and was drafted by Ryan Pace in the fifth round last season. Braxton Jones surprised many and worked his way up to starting left tackle. He has looked the part in both practice and training camp. This should be exciting for fans as much as it is nerve-racking at times. It’s not often you see two fifth-round picks earn the starting offensive tackle spots.
What is great about this happening is the way the line will be built together going forward. They can grow and develop together hopefully making the line better year after year. Behind these two is the guy I had pegged as the starting left tackle in 2022. Riley Reiff was signed to a significant deal that has a large number of escalators in it. Should he not hit certain goals, then the Chicago Bears owe him much less.
Rounding out the final roster spot at offensive tackle is Shon Coleman. Coleman was a third-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2016. He played in seven games in his rookie season and started all 16 games for the Browns in his sophomore year. He hasn’t stuck with any other teams but spent time with the 49ers in 2020 and the Colts in 2021.
