3. Mike Pennel

Mike Pennel is another player that fans were not seeing. When you look at the depth chart, the veteran who many thought would make the roster appears to be all the way at the bottom. Trevon Coley was on the field in the first half, showing that he is much more likely to make the roster.

Micah Dew-Treadway was on the field not long after that. He is likely a practice squad option for the team, which puts him in favor of the coaches over Pennel. Lastly. Khiyris Tonga has been running as the top nose tackle ahead of Pennel.

MDT and Coley are competing for depth roles, but Pennel vs. Tonga is the true position battle, as neither provides much versatility. From the start, the appearance has been that Tonga has and will win the job.

With that in mind, there just is not much need for Pennel. They do not need his depth, and they already have a nose tackle. The veteran is best off finding a new team. This will be the second straight summer that Pennel shows up to Chicago to win a job and walks away hoping to stick with a new team.
