2. Duke Shelley

This may be the end of a player who started far too often last season. He played the entirety of the second half in the slot and allowed a touchdown reception from Josh Rosen. This is a bit of a fall from the starting lineup, although that was a front office issue more than the problem of Shelley.

Still, Duke Shelley may end up getting cut soon, and it became apparent this weekend. The big news was that Kyler Gordon started in the slot and did not play outside at all. This means the team is going to want to keep depth on the outside, and Lamar Jackson started across from Kindle Vildor in the preseason finale.

Both of them are probably locked over Shelley, considering they were done for the night when Shelley was getting ready to take the field. Tavon Young did not play in the preseason, but he is an experienced veteran with an injury history so that makes sense.

Still, with Gordon in the slot, it means that Young is just going to be slot depth anyways. When you figure that Young and Gordon are the slot corners, and Vildor, Jackson, and Jaylon Johnson are locked into the outside, the numbers game shows Shelley as CB six at best.

The sixth cornerback could make it, but him being the third man in the slot rotation is tough to justify. This could be it for the former draft pick from Kanas State.
