3. Tajae Sharpe
After the Chicago Bears’ first preseason game the thought was that Tajae Sharpe had all but locked up a roster spot for himself. However, that is why the next two weeks need to play out. The reality is that Sharpe has hardly been able to practice over the last two weeks with an injury.
Sharpe is a long-standing veteran and there is not a heap of upside with him. The team was looking to keep him mainly because he brought stability and a veteran presence to the locker room.
If he is not trusted to be healthy then half of the reason he is even making the team is gone. When you look at the roster numbers it becomes clear that he would only make the team as a sixth wide receiver.
The Chicago Bears surely could keep six wideouts, but at this point, they may be more interested in keeping an extra running back or tight end. The team runs heavy personnel that involves just two wideouts often, and that means keeping depth at the other positions. If it comes down to Darrynton Evans, Tajae Sharpe, or Chase Allen, he may be on the outside looking in.
