The Chicago Bears preseason finale was ensuring for Justin Fields and fans who were worried about the offense. Meanwhile, for players lower down on the roster totem pole there were position battles and roster battles to be won.
Who are five players that had a strong game, and may have solidified their role in this game?
5. Trevon Coley
When the Chicago Bears signed Trevon Coley early on during training camp we had mentioned that he may be a candidate for the 53-man roster. That was mainly because of the lack of depth at the position. Still, Coley has earned it, especially after his performance on Saturday night.
The first thing to note from the game is when he showed up. Coley was on the field in the first half. He was on the field before Khiyris Tonga, Mike Pennel, and Micah Dew-Treadway. He was essentially the third interior rusher.
He did fine in the role and was able to get upfield in both run-downs and as a pass rusher. He played well enough, and early enough that is hard to say that Coley is not going to make the roster.
He may not be in the spot where you can say that he is a lock, but at the same time, it will be surprising if he is not the third interior defensive lineman.
