5 Chicago Bears who may have locked down a roster spot in preseason finale
4. Dante Pettis
This may have been known before the game, but it certainly became a locked-in situation after the game. Dante Pettis started to earn his role during the first preseason game when he proved to be a better punt returner than Dazz Newsome.
Pettis started as a punt returner this week with Velus Jones injured, and he would be the next player in line to be a punt return option during the regular season.
Then, what sealed in Pettis for the roster was his usage on offense. The game was an official dress rehearsal, and Dante Pettis was on the field when the team went to three wide receiver sets.
To be fair, Byron Pringle and Velus Jones were out for this game, so he would probably be the fifth wide receiver. Still, he is locked into the fifth wide receiver, and the backup punt returner, which is what makes him a roster lock. Getting onto the field as the third wideout with Justin Fields was all that we needed to see.
