3. Jake Tonges

Jake Tonges is a valuable player who is going to fill a depth role for the Chicago Bears. We wrote about him earlier in the offseason, noting that he may ensure himself a practice squad spot.

That is because he is flashing versatility. Tonges was drafted as a tight end and played the position in college. However, one of the most interesting notes from the initial depth chart was that he was also listed as a fullback.

Tonges has spent the preseason playing both fullback and tight end as well. During the preseason finale, he was the backup to Khari Blasingame and spent the entire second half on the field for the offense.

When he was not getting work as the fullback, he was still the tight end. A backup fullback, and fourth, or perhaps the fifth tight end is not going to make the roster. However, a UDFA tight end who was asked to change positions and take on a role as a backup fullback should get the courtesy of the invite to the practice squad.

The Bears put time into making him a variable backup, and he put time into taking on a new role, so it only makes sense.
