Biggest “Names” the Chicago Bears Cut: Darrynton Evans, RB

I did not expect Darrynton Evans to make the final 53-man roster, but I know plenty of fans and even some analysts thought he would stick around. Evans is a big name in the sense that when he was first claimed off the Titans’ waivers, the thought was he would be the RB3 behind David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert

Evans had two years left on his deal, but his contract wasn’t guaranteed for the Bears. Therefore, it didn’t cost the Bears anything to cut him. With Ryan Poles selecting Trestan Ebner in the sixth round, Darrynton Evans’ job was not 100% secure. Even with the selection of Ebner, Evans had a legitimate shot at making the final roster. However, Ebner’s performance secured his spot on this team and with the Bears keeping a fullback, it didn’t make sense for Evans to stick around.

Ebner also has more value on special teams than Evans. The only way that Evans was going to stick around in my opinion is if Ebner’s injury was worse off than we thought. The fact that Evans is not being kept tells me that Ebner should be good to go by Week 1 — even though he won’t see many snaps with Montgomery and Herbert ahead of him anyway.
