The Chicago Bears, along with all teams in the NFL, had to officially trim down their rosters to 53 players by 3:00 pm CST yesterday. This led to the release of around 500 players across the NFL over the last few days. The Chicago Bears now have a massive pool of players to look at as potential assets to their team. As the old saying goes though, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

The Bears still could use some help at key positions like offensive line, wide receiver, cornerback, and more. With all these players being cut, here are a few key players they should attempt to bring in whether that is through waivers or signings.

Players the Chicago Bears Must Consider Adding: Tyler Johnson, WR

One of the most surprising cuts from yesterday was former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Tyler Johnson. Johnson was a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and showed various flashes in limited games for the Bucs. Unfortunately for him, the Bucs just have an incredibly deep wide receiver room highlighted by Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Julio Jones, and Russell Gage.

Johnson saw limited action as a rookie and in his second season, but he showed some solid tape in a few games as a route runner. He isn’t a crazy athlete, but he was highlighted for his strength, contested-catch ability, and crisp route running. He additionally posted incredible stats and broke records at Minnesota as he posted back-to-back impressive seasons amassing over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns both of those seasons.

Johnson would be a nice addition to at least see what he can provide for the Bears. With the current wide receiver room in Chicago, the Bears need to bring in more talent and see what they can develop in their younger players. Johnson is still only 24 years old and with some development, could be a solid X wide receiver.
