4. Alex Leatherwood’s athletic profile

One of the big reasons why Alex Leatherwood was shot into the first round was his athletic profile. He checked most of the boxes that teams needed to see and also has excellent arm length.

Below you can see how he compares to Teven Jenkins, who was another tackle who college who appears to be moving to guard. Since they now will be playing together the comparison is interesting. The chart is courtesy of Relative Athletic Scores.

Overall, they have a very similar athletic skill set. You can see that Leatherwood does have long arms, but the height and weight are within a half of an inch and five pounds.

The 40-yard dash is the same, and Leatherwood was slightly more agile with slightly better jumping numbers.

One thing we have seen from Ryan Poles is that he likes to take bets on athletic players. Seeing Leatherwood have a total profile that came out to a 96th percentile athlete can make you understand why the team did take a chance on Leatherwood in the first place.
