6. Chase Allen

Chase Allen was a player very close to making the initial 53-man roster. We thought that Allen had outplayed James O’Shaughnessy in the preseason, and when the team cut O’Shaughnessy it appeared that the coaches agreed.

However, while they did like what they saw from Allen, the rookie UDFA looked better than O’Shaughnessy may have been an indictment on O’Shaughnessy more than it was a praise of Allen.

The team did bring in a tight end, but instead of Allen or O’Shaughnessy, it was Trevon Wesco, from the New York Jets. Wesco is a bit more versatile than O’Shaughnessy, and he often lines up at fullback, but the team already has Jake Tonges who does that.

Either way, a rookie UDFA tight end making a 53-man roster is pretty unheard of. It is the hardest position to transition to, and the team is likely giving him more time to develop. This is a UDFA who will be competing hard to make the roster soon.
