Ranking Chiacgo Bears 2022 Practice Squad
15. Darrynton Evans
The Chicago Bears claimed Darrynton Evans on waivers this offseason, so there was a possibility that if he got released then he would find a new home. However, Evans cleared waivers and is back in Chicago.
Still, the former third-round pick lost his spot to Trestan Ebner, a sixth-round rookie, and the competition really was not close. That is a fast fall for Evans. The reality is that they needed to keep him because they need a change of pace, a pass-catching back.
Ebner is currently their only one, but a rookie nursing an injury right now is not the safest bet. So, if Ebner went down, or was untrusted they have a safety plan. However, if David Montgomery or Khalil Herbert went down, it may not even affect his role.
Monty and Herbert have different role and skill set than Ebner and Evans altogether. While Evans is the backup to Ebner, they would look at different backs to replace the other two. That is why Evans is so low.
