Every year we always hear about how old or young the Chicago Bears roster is in comparison to other teams in the NFL. Last season, the team clocked in as the oldest team with an average age of 27.0. That seemed to be a big deal to some Bears fans and even analysts. I’d like to date myself here by stating, that is still more than 10 years younger than me. It’s also less than two years older than the youngest team in 2021 — the Jets’ average age was 25.1.

We tend to make a big deal about the average ages of teams. I remember defending the fact that the Bears were the oldest team in the NFL last year by the fact that most of the older players on the roster wouldn’t be around in 2022, or they are guys like Robert Quinn who might have been 31 but had one of the most dominant performances by an EDGE rusher in the NFL to date.

The Chicago Bears are no longer the oldest team in the NFL this year

This year, according to Philly Voice, the Tampa Buccaneers have the oldest team in the NFL with an average age of 27.1. Are fans of the Buccaneers, or even fans of just the NFL, overly concerned by this fact? Do you hear analysts making a big deal about it? The answer is no and that’s because they have one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game under center. Had Tom Brady been in Chicago last year, no one would have been making this an issue.

Well, for those of you who do care about these things, you are in luck. Let’s take a look at how the Chicago Bears stack up against the league in regard to average age.
