2. Darnell Mooney vs Charvarius Ward

While we do not know if the 49ers will play sides of follow wide receivers, they may make an exception for this game. The Bears’ depth chart at wideout falls off after Darnell Mooney and the 49ers signed Charvarius Ward, giving him big money to be their top cornerback because they did not trust Emmanuel Moseley in that role.

Moseley is a nice number two, but the addition does have them clearly defined as number one and number two. When teams have two good wideouts, they may play sides. When it is Darnell Mooney and Equanimeous St. Brown, they should let Moseley have his go against St. Brown, then focus on Ward against Mooney.

This will be a great test. Ward can move into the slot, and Mooney will as well. It will be the first time we see Mooney as the true center of attention from opposing defenses, and he may get a notable name at cornerback following him to kick things off.
