This Sunday, the Chicago Bears will face off against the San Francisco 49ers. It will be a tough test for this new coaching staff led by Matt Eberflus, Luke Getsy and Alan Williams. No one is giving the Chicago Bears a chance outside of faithful fans who are already drinking the Kool-Aid after witnessing the team go 3-0 in the preseason.
Obviously, winning in the preseason means little, but we saw discipline from the players unlike we have seen in years past. The key though, is that the team carries this discipline over into the regular season. Personally, I have the Chicago Bears winning Week 1 because I don’t have as much faith in Trey Lance as I do Justin Fields – even if the 49ers defense has an advantage. Justin Fields showed enough growth and development from last season to this season for me to feel comfortable with the Bears finding a way to pull off a victory.
5 Questions regarding the 49ers as the Chicago Bears head into Week 1
With the game only one day away, I reached out to the 49ers FanSided site Niners Noise to get a local perspective on the ins and outs of what is going on in San Francisco. I presented that team with five questions and they were kind enough to provide the following responses.
What is the concern/hype level around Trey Lance as he enters year two as the unquestioned starter?
"“On a scale of one to 10, the 49er faithful’s convern/hype over quarter back Trey Lance is, ‘Absolutely.’ Lance’s play, along with head coach Kyle Shanahan’s utilization of the youngster, will determine the outcome of the 49ers’season. Since we have very little tape on Lance, we have little insight into how he will perform. Am I concerned the 49ers are wasting their Super Bowl window by electing to start an unproven quarterback? Absolutely. Am I hyped that Lance could come out firing like Kaepernick did – sorry – against the Chicago Bears in 2012? Absolutely.”"
