These three Chicago Bears players were studs in Week 1 vs. 49ers
Week 1 Winner No. 3: Matt Eberflus
Yes, it is only Week 1, but Matt Eberflus has not lost yet as an NFL head coach, now moving to 4-0 counting the preseason. The Chicago Bears’ effort as a team showed how much they have bought into the Eberflus system. With no play-calling duties for the first-year head coach, he can solely focus on personnel and decision-making as a head coach. He has put his trust in his coordinators and assistant coaches, and it shows with the chemistry and grit that this team played with against the 49ers.
While it is early in the Eberflus era, what better way to start your career as a Chicago Bears head coach than to not lose in the preseason and to have your team upset a title contender in Week 1 at home? Things have gone so well for Eberflus so far and his coaching style showed in his coaching debut.
There were no big decisions that were made today, but his on-the-fly adjustments as well as halftime adjustments demonstrated what kind of coach he is. The last few years were filled with failure by the coaching staff to recognize what is working and what isn’t, and that led to lack of in game adjustments. This week showed that the Bears players and coaches can recognize what needs to be done to win, and it led to the second-half comeback and ultimately the big win over the 49ers. Even when the weather picked up the Bears were still playing hard and flying to the football on defense. It seems everyone has bought into Eberflus’ HITS principles, so credit to him for creating a system for the players to believe in.
The Chicago Bears were able to pull together and steal a game from the San Francisco 49ers. Dominique Robinson, Jaquan Brisker, and of course Matt Eberflus came away as the biggest winners from this week, among some other honorable mentions. This game has shown that this team will fight and scrap to win, no matter how the game is going or what the conditions are.
