Chicago Bears Week 1 Overreaction No. 2: The Bears defense could be a top 10 unit

Once Matt Eberflus was hired as the Chicago Bears’ head coach, there was criticism about how teams need offensive minds to have success in the modern NFL.

And while it’s certainly more entertaining for fans to have an offensive guru as a head coach, offensive gurus have left a bad taste in the Chicago Bears’ mouth once they decided to part ways with Matt Nagy.

However, with Matt Eberflus coming from an Indianapolis Colts defense that— under him— was known for creating turnovers. That, in turn, helps the offense without actually doing anything on the offensive side of the ball.

More times than not, turnovers give the offense better field position than following a punt or a kickoff. So, while coach Flus might not have an offensive mind, having an incredible defense does help the team overall.

And so far, this defense does look good. There are areas that need to be tightened up, of course, but at the same time, Ryan Poles filled this defense with some true dogs.

And one of these rookies— Jaquan Brisker— is looking like he could be a true Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Not only did he recover Jaylon Johnson’s perfectly executed Peanut Punch, but there was another play where he came in and caused another “fumble,” even if the play was blown dead.

Along with Brisker’s performance, 2018 Eddie Jackson looked to have returned to the Bears defense. His diving interception reminded a lot of people as to why he was given the money he was, and there is more where that came from.

Lastly, the Bears just did an excellent job at— for the most part— keeping a well-coached offense out of the end zone.

Keeping the 49ers to 10 points is incredibly impressive, especially with a defense that has so many new faces on it.

This Chicago Bears defense will end the season as a top 10 unit in the league; book it!

Alright, last overreaction… coming right up!
