1. New faces getting helmets for Chicago Bears

The team had two players that were inactive last week find their way onto the field. Trevon Wesco, the player they claimed from the Jets was active, as was Kinglsey Jonathan, the edge rusher that they claimed from Buffalo.

In place of Wesco, the team made Jake Tonges inactive. This is interesting because the two play the same role. We wondered why they added Wesco when they have someone like Tonges and it never seemed like the two would be able to get on the field together. So far, it has been one or the other.

I guess it makes sense for them to let the competition bleed into the season since they just added Wesco, and they are not sure which of the two they prefer as their depth at tight end. Tonges played nine snaps in week one, but then Wesco played just two snaps against the Packers. Some of that may have to do with Chicago playing with a lead in week one and trailing in week two.

To make Jonathan active the team sat down Lamar Jackson. This move makes sense in that they made a cornerback inactive in favor of an edge rusher. When you play against Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, you want the depth at cornerback.

When you play against A.J. Dillon, and Aaron Jones, you want the extra edge rusher. Lamar Jackson did not play in week one, so the six snaps for Jonathan was a small increase. They needed the rotation depth, although with Gipson and Robinson playing a bit less, you wonder if they could have just split the six snaps that Jonathan gave. Either way, it was good to get his NFL debut out of the way.
