New Year, Same Problems. The Chicago Bears’ Biggest Problem
By Ryan Olson
After a refreshing week one to the season where the Chicago Bears upset the NFC runner-up San Francisco 49ers, it appears the Bears are back at square one in week two after a humiliating loss vs. the Green Bay Packers.
From the outside looking in, a 1-1 record after playing two playoff teams to start the season is nothing to complain about. However, that loss previewed some significant flaws and holes in this Bears team. For starters, Luke Getsy’s play calling was absolutely atrocious all night, and the Bears’ significant lack of talent shined brightly as every time they were backed up early, their talent couldn’t help them out of the hole they dug themselves on early downs. Overcoming a false start on Ryan Griffin felt like too tall of a task for this Bears team, with the lack of receiving talent.
However, the lack of receiving talent is nothing new and nothing we shouldn’t have expected, the Bears went into the season with Darnell Mooney, and a bunch of players who have never been needle movers at wide receiver their whole career. So them not being able to get open is nothing to get angry about because we knew it would be a problem going into the season.
The real problem that glared last night was Luke Getsy’s play calling which was supposed to be an upgrade from Matt Nagy but has undoubtedly looked worse compared to years past. Luke Getsy failed last night in two major ways that lost the Bears the game last night.
