5 Texans players who can make Chicago Bears life difficult
1. Derek Stingley vs Darnell Mooney
This is probably the matchup that will determine the game. As we have noted, rookie cornerbacks are often the players who struggle right off of the bat. It is no shock that Kyler Gordon has the most yards allowed this year, but in second behind him is Derek Stingley, the number three overall pick.
To be fair to Stingley, he has lined up against Courtland Sutton and Michael Pittman so far. The two are big-body wide receivers, and both veteran quarterbacks have thrown many jump balls up against the rookie to see if he could handle it.
Stingley has had moments but has struggled against both wideouts. Now, in comes Darnell Mooney. On the plus side for Stingley, Mooney does not have nearly the same frame.
Still, this means a completely new challenge and something he has not seen much in the NFL. On the flip side, Mooney is due. He played in the pouring rain in week one, then saw Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes in week two.
Maybe one day Stingley will have the reputation that those two hold, but for now, the Chicago Bears are more likely to target him heavily than they are to avoid him at all costs.
If Mooney struggles against the rookie it is going to be a long year, but this could also be the game that gets him going.
