The Chicago Bears went into New York to face the Giants and unfortunately could not get the job done, losing by a score of 20-12. The Bears failed to score a touchdown in this game, and the team got outplayed by a banged-up Giants squad.

With that said, some notable performances stood out today and deserve to be recognized. Hopefully, these players are going to continue to find success, because the team will need more consistency as the season goes on.

The Chicago Bears finally got some production out of Darnell Mooney

Player one: Darnell Mooney

It was relieving to see the Justin Fields to Darnell Mooney connection firing for the first time this season. After such an outstanding year last season, Mooney has been nowhere to be found to start this year. He has struggled to get separation against the top corners every week, and the rest of his fellow receivers are not doing anything to help the cause.

We saw a bit of life out of Mooney today as he was able to haul in four passes for 94 yards, including a 56-yard bomb in the first quarter. That pass was beautifully thrown by Fields, but Darnell Mooney was able to disengage from the cornerback, locate the ball, and adjust his body to secure the catch. Those are the types of plays that we want to see from these two. It is easy to see why they have such good chemistry, and Justin trusts Mooney enough to basically just throw it up in the general vicinity of his WR1.

Mooney has been working hard this year at the little things, including run blocking and being a decoy. While it is good that he contributes to other areas, he needs to get the ball in order for this offense to be successful. It was a good day for Mooney, but he only had four catches. As the top wideout by a wide margin on this team, he should be hauling in close to double-digit passes per game, or at least seeing that many targets.

The passing game this season has been a complete failure so far, but some signs of life from Darnell Mooney give hope for what could come in the future if the offense starts to put things together.
