Chicago Bears 2022 Trade Candidate: David Montgomery, RB

David Montgomery is hurt and therefore his trade value is basically non-existent right now. However, if he is able to return in a couple of weeks, it’s possible he shows he is healthy enough for a team that is truly in the playoff hunt and that has Super Bowl aspirations to make a deal for him.

I keep reading fans say that the Denver Broncos should trade for him now that they lost Javonte Williams for the season. Well, I’m not sure that team fits the description of a team I am referring to. For one, they have Melvin Gordon who is easily capable of being the top back on the team. Two, they might not be in the hunt enough when the trade deadline rolls around. Being in a division with the Chargers, Chiefs and Raiders makes it difficult to push for a playoff spot.

Khalil Herbert keeps showing that the Bears don’t need to re-sign Montgomery in the offseason. The position is not worth paying top dollar and I think Ryan Poles understands this. I really like Montgomery and would hate to see him in a different uniform, but I also understand the value of the position and the smart move is to look to Herbert and a rookie in 2023. Maybe a team like the Ravens will lose faith in J.K. Dobbins — Montgomery could help them push the limits in the AFC.
