Player two: Darnell Mooney

Two weeks in a row now we have seen the Darnell Mooney that everybody knows and loves. While the catches and yards are not consistent still, the connection between Fields and Mooney is developing once again. Oh, and Darnell Mooney made one of the best catches in a long time and is certainly a contender for catch of the year this season. If anyone needed a reminder of how good Mooney actually is, just look at any football media platform from Week 5 and they can see for themselves.

It still feels like picking teeth trying to get Mooney involved in the offense. The targets that are mixing between Dante Pettis and Ihmir Smith-Marsette are seeing should be between Mooney and Velus Jones Jr, because they are the best playmakers on this team. We saw what Velus Jones can do with the ball in his hands and we saw how Mooney can make almost any throw a possible catch.

The offensive coaching staff needs to get involved in the short-passing game to utilize their strengths. Screens and quick passes to let Mooney or Jones have room to run after the catch are necessary for this offense to have success. With Mooney and Fields catching a rhythm after these last few games, it would not hurt to throw even more targets his way.

Darnell Mooney is easily the best receiver on this team, and the offense needs to gameplan more to his strengths. It is clear that he is an x-factor on this offense, so look for him to put up some better numbers as the season goes on.
