I said it already and I’ll keep saying it. On a micro level, the Chicago Bears need to win this game. Beating the Commanders means that the Bears stay in the race for the crown of the NFC North. A loss and they are looking more like the Lions. On a macro level, the win-loss record this season means nothing — except where Ryan Poles gets to select his first-rounder next offseason.

If we look back at the loss to the Vikings in Week 5, there are plenty of positives from young players. Players who will be here for the next few years. Rookie wide receiver, Velus Jones, Jr. scored his first touchdown on his first touch on offense. Kindle Vildor took away his first interception. Justin Fields and Darnell Mooney looked fantastic and many more youngsters stood out. This is great news for the team’s future.

That said, Matt Eberflus, the coaches, and the players are not content with losing. They will not just tank or not play at 100%. Their objective and instinct will always be to win each and every game. Once again, on a micro level, beating the Commanders should come easier than some of their future opponents. Later in the year, the Chicago Bears face the Cowboys, Bills and Eagles — three teams with a combined record of 13-2.

We have seen growth from the offense over the last two weeks, but the defense has shown struggles in the first half each week before settling down in the second half of each game. The team allowed its first touchdown in the second half all season last week to the Vikings. The half-time adjustments Alan Williams and the Bears’ defense are making are fabulous. Now, it’s time to see that execution throughout the entire game. Having Jaylon Johnson back should help.

Here are three things this team must do if they are going to win tonight.
