3. Aggressive Throws

This issue goes hand-in-hand with the last one. NFL NextGen Stats tracks aggressive throws, or tight window throws. So far this season Justin Fields has the least number of tight-window throws in the NFL at 4%. Last season he was at 17%.

A happy medium should be closer to 11%. That is where Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Patrick Mahomes all sit. It shows a player is being aggressive, but not being reckless.

Last season Fields was a bit wreckless as he tried to play hero ball. This season, it appears as though he is trying to hard not to make the mistake that he is not letting the football rip when he has a chance to make an aggressive throw.

Sometimes you have to throw it to a tight window and let your man make the play. Fields has not been doing that and rather has been waiting for someone to scream wide open so that it is obvious to him.

That is only going to happen so often, and at some point, you have to try to throw guys open or give players a shot. The lack of aggressive throws is adding to his time to throw because he is not letting the ball go on time. He does not think his man is open, and then holds the ball too long. At some point, he needs to trust what he sees and fire away, even if the player is not wide open. This will lower his time to throw naturally.
