2. Chicago Bears signing Lucas Patrick
The Chicago Bears reportedly missed out on Brian Allen, who had a change of heart and went back to his LA Rams. To be fair, Allen has been injured, but at the same time, the plan B of Lucas Patrick has not been good.
The Chicago Bears seemingly brought in Patrick because their offensive coordinator Luke Getsy wanted him. His versatility was a plus, but Getsy wanted him to play center, and be the rock that Justin Fields has for years to come. That has not happened for a single snap.
Yes, Patrick has not been able to snap a football until about two weeks ago. Still, the Chicago Bears’ plan to sign their starting center of the future has involved him rotating at right guard, and now playing left guard.
At right guard, he was taking snaps away from Teven Jenkins, who was playing better than him. At left guard, he looks and plays out position, and he has struggled in two straight games. Then, he left Thursday with an injury.
When they signed Patrick they had visions of a long-term rock for Justin Fields. Now, he feels like a placeholder and a swing interior player who should be a backup. That is not what they want to see.
