5 Chicago Bears failing to live up to expectations
1. Does Cole Kmet play for the Chicago Bears?
Yes, believe it or not Cole Kmet does still play for the Chicago Bears. In fact, this will surprise some, but he is fifth on the team in snaps. He is behind only Justin Fields, Braxton Jons, Larry Borom, and Sam Mustipher in snaps played on offense.
So, Cole Kmet is out there. That is about all that you can say, though, He has spent 163 of his 314 snaps blocking. Still, that leaves 151 routes ran with just 116 yards. That is pretty bad.
The Chicago Bears target him on just 12.8% of his route run, and he averages 0.8 yards per route run. That is the fifth worst among tight ends. Only Albert Okwuegbunam, Tommy Tremble, Austin Hooper, and Noah Gray are less involved in the passing game but are still out there on the field.
Like everyone else in this group, it is somewhat on the coaching staff, and somewhat on him. He Is not playing well, and not getting open, and is not a dynamic threat that has to be fed the football. At the same time, a few easy passes to Kmet could get Fields comfortable.
We saw play action bootlegs with Kmet screaming open over the middle. What happened to those plays. They have to find a way to get more production out their tight end, and Cole Kmet has to play better because he is a huge disappointment at this point.
