The Chicago Bears also need to add veteran help to the interior line

The outside tackle spots are not the only issues regarding the offensive line. In fact, the interior part of the line has been far worse. The center position has looked awful with Sam Mustipher at the helm, but Matt Eberflus and Chris Morgan have yet to move Lucas Patrick to the spot he was originally signed to play. Instead, Patrick is filling in for Cody Whitehair at left guard. Patrick has struggled at both guard spots but the hope is he’d be an upgrade over Mustipher.

Maybe the team doesn’t feel comfortable counting on Michael Schofield at one of the guard spots. If that’s the case, then Ryan Poles should consider signing another guard with more experience than Ja’tyre Carter or maybe a center if they want to keep Patrick at guard.

A few names out there at guard include Ereck Flowers, Trey Hopkins, or maybe they can convince Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to pause his residency and come back to football. Options at center are more limited and really only include Matt Paradis. He’s still an upgrade over Sam Mustipher. To be fair, a tackling dummy that doesn’t move would be better than Mustipher.

The point is, it’s time for a change. Making one now isn’t going to help them win games. It’s all about keeping Fields in an upright position long enough to evaluate the roster for 2023.
