The Chicago Bears need to jump on this Christian McCaffrey trade market
Chicago Bears should be shopping David Montgomery before the trade deadline
Darnell Mooney is great, but he is not a true WR1 in the NFL. He’s a WR2 with WR1 upside each week and that’s perfectly acceptable. Braxton Jones has surprised many people — including the coaching staff. He has quickly climbed up the ranks and is now their starting left tackle. The problem is, he was highly exposed vs the Commanders and I’d expect that he starts to lose more bull rush battles. He needs to hit the weight room hard. These are just two examples.
The rest of the offensive roster outside the running back position could be backups on many other teams. That’s not a good sign. I am a Cole Kmet proponent but even he would be the backup on most NFL rosters. Chicago Bears fans need to be patient as we watch this unfold. Ryan Poles needs to be given time to build this team back up now that he has a decent amount of early draft picks and a large sum of salary cap dollars to play with.
That said, one player who doesn’t look to be in the Bears’ future is David Montgomery. Montgomery is a very good running back and deserves to start in the NFL. That said, I don’t foresee Ryan Poles giving him big money to stay. If I am Poles, I’d be looking to trade Montgomery at the deadline. When you hear that multiple teams are interested in Christian McCaffrey, you’d have to expect that some of them would be interested in Montgomery too.
I’m not about to try and convince you that Montgomery is as good as Christian McCaffrey. He’s not. However, he’s definitely a 1B-type option. There are plenty of reasons why Montgomery could even be the better trade option if the Chicago Bears make him available.
