Should the Chicago Bears start tanking right now?

Through six weeks, the Chicago Bears sit at 2-4, and honestly, it probably isn’t going to get much better down the stretch. The Bears only have two more games against teams that are currently under .500 — both of which are against the Detroit Lions. Needless to say, it might be a long end of the season for Bears fans.

Naturally, with the playoff picture out of sight, it feels appropriate for the Bears to start tanking to get the best player possible in the 2023 NFL Draft. After not owning their own first-round pick last year (given up in the trade to acquire Justin Fields), it might make sense to try to get as high a draft pick as possible in order for the new regime of Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus to find a blue-chip player.

Is it time for the Chicago Bears to start tanking for the draft?

However, there may not be much of a need to completely tank when looking at the teams that will sit atop the NFL Draft, as well as the players that will be available and highly coveted as top-10 picks for 2023.

As of right now, the Bears are estimated to hold the 11th pick according to Tankathon — based on records and tiebreakers when necessary. I believe that the Chicago Bears, considering their tough schedule, will likely continue to fall in the rankings and gain a higher draft pick. But it is too early to hope the Bears lose all their games in order to secure a better pick.
