Chicago Bears visit Patriots for a tough Monday Night test

The Bears could certainly go and stun the home New England Patriots on Monday Night, but many things would have to go Chicago’s way.

With Mac Jones slated to start after missing the previous three weeks, there is speculation of a quarterback controversy brewing after backup Bailey Zappe notched a 2-1 record, with the lone loss being a road, overtime defeat to the Green Bay Packers.

Despite a better record with Zappe under center, the Patriots returned the keys of the offense to a healthy Mac Jones. Jones, the 15th pick in the 2021 NFL draft, will face off against Bears’ starting quarterback Justin Fields, the 11th overall pick in the same draft. Fields is currently 2-0 against quarterbacks from his draft class, beating both the Trey Lance-led San Francisco 49ers and Davis Mills’ Houston Texans earlier this season.

However, the toughest obstacle in the way of Fields going 3-0 against quarterbacks drafted in 2021 is not Mac Jones, but rather the Bill Belichick-led Patriots defense. As a unit, the Patriots’ defense is seventh in points per game and 13th in yards per game. Against the run, the Patriots are only 20th in the NFL, but given Belichick’s comments (seen below) earlier in the week, it would be surprising to see the Bears effectively run the ball on Monday.
