More on Chicago Bears quarterback, Justin Fields

All said above about Justin Fields; he has looked bad with rookie-like flashes of greatness. Ryan Fitzpatrick shared some comments that have everybody up in arms. I don’t disagree with the Magic man. I told everybody that Justin Fields is a Russell Wilson-type of quarterback. That is what he was in high school (for a high school quarterback) and college.

I should say that is what the game film shows. But when you have one of the top offensive lines and weapons in high school and college, it’s easy to throw the ball. There is a big difference (talking to Ryan Fitzpatrick) between Cam Newton, Michael Vick, RGIII, and Wilson. They are all black mobile quarterbacks, but they all have different styles.

We have to stop thinking all running quarterbacks are the same. Are John Elway and Steve Young the same? Nope. One was an improviser, while the other was a runner. Lamar Jackson was every bit of Michael Vick, but he grew into himself. Newton and Josh Allen. Kyler Murray and young Russell Wilson. Sadly and gratefully, Justin Fields reminds me the most of RGIII.

Sadly, that means a career that might not be long, taking the abuse he is taking. However, we are talking about a guy who will run after a few reads but only really runs when he sees a big lane — initial indecisiveness due to a lack of weapons.

Many forget that RGIII did all that with a running back, Pierre Garcon, old Santana Moss, and an injury-prone Jordan Reed. That was it, though. Yes, I said lack of weapons after calling Darnell Mooney a number one receiver. And yes, I have moved on from that, though, until he proves me wrong.

Mooney has all the tools to become number one, but again, that is a ceiling he might never reach. That is very unfortunate, but it is also the truth. It will be a challenging evaluation for the new regime, but they can only make an evaluation if Justin Fields makes it through the season. Fields needs to add a putter to his bag if he wants to add to his game. It’s tough putting with a driver. It can be done, but it’s much easier with a putter.
