Chicago Bears Overreaction No. 3: The 2018 Chicago Bears defense is back

While there was a lot of skepticism surrounding the Chicago Bears’ selecting two defensive backs with their first two picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, there might be a method to the madness.

Ryan Poles likely cares about having his job for a long time, not just one season. So, he wants to build the best team he can, not just improve the offense and neglect everything else.

Now, should Ryan Poles have been a little more aggressive in the draft with receivers? Maybe, but the biggest con to that is reaching for a position of want and not getting a position of need at the correct value.

Yes, the Chicago Bears needed, and still need, a wide receiver. However, with the position they were in, they were able to get a position of need at the proper value.

Kyler Gordon has been playing much better than he did to start the year, and Jaquan Brisker has genuinely been a DROY candidate so far.

Oh, and they both just got their first career INTs tonight, so that’s a pretty cool moment for the two rookies.

That all said, this Chicago Bears defense is giving 2018 vibes.

They might not be the No. 1 defense in every measured stat, but they’re not too far off. And given how this defense was predicted to do at the beginning of the year, they’ve been nothing short of impressive.

If Alan Williams and Matt Eberflus can continue getting better each week, this defense could be a genuine threat to every team they face up against.

Even without Khalil Mack, the Chicago Bears defense has shown up week in and week-out.

But, maybe the Bears should’ve reached on Skyy Moore in the second instead of Jaquan Brisker or Kyler Gordon, right?
