Could Chicago Bears re-sign David Montgomery?

Before the season it seemed unlikely that David Montgomery would return to the Chicago Bears after he did see an offer this offseason. The new front office is waiting to see what they have in Montgomery before committing, and that is why trade talks have gotten hot.

However, while the thought was that Montgomery would produce, and then get a big deal in free agency, that may not be the case. First, the Bears’ run game has been up and down, and Chicago Bears fans are not the only people to see that Herbert has more yards on fewer carries than Montgomery.

He is not having a big year, he is in a timeshare, and worse than that, he is entering free agency when a lot of running backs are looking for a deal at the same time.

No one is saying the team will overpay David Montgomery. However, the Bears may offer him a deal he initially thought was low, but as he explores the free agent market, he learns it is about on par.

Montgomery may say that is best for him to stay with the team he knows, in the scheme he knows, and in a role that uses his strengths. That could result in him staying for the team at a more reasonable price than fans initially thought.
