Chicago Bears officially “in the hunt” ahead of Week 8
By Peter Jurich
Heading into Week 8 of the NFL season, the Chicago Bears are officially “in the hunt” for a playoff birth. At 3-4, the Bears are currently tied with five different teams (the 49ers, Packers, Falcons, Commanders, and Cardinals) and are on the outside looking in. But in a wild NFC race where the Geno Smith-led Seattle Seahawks are currently the 3 seed, there are still a lot of shakeups that have to happen throughout the remainder of the season.
The Chicago Bears are in a six-way tie for 8th-place in the NFC
In the NFC, the power structure is already starting to settle a little less than halfway through the regular season, as the Vikings appear to be running away with the NFC North at 5-1 and the NFC East having three teams who may likely make the playoffs.
It is seemingly unlikely that the Bears win the North and end up a top 4 seed in the NFC, and with the Eagles, Giants, and Cowboys all with two or fewer losses, the Bears may only be able to make the playoffs as the 7 seed barring a meltdown from one of the above-mentioned teams.
While the Bears find themselves currently tied on the outside looking in (with a tie-breaker over the 49ers), the 7-seed Rams are only 3-3 after having had their bye during Week 7. Unfortunately, both the Packers and Commanders have tie-breakers over the Bears, but Chicago can fix one of those situations with a win at home over Green Bay on December 4th at Soldier Field.
