Player two: Khalil Herbert

As mentioned, the running game of the Chicago Bears has been ELITE this season. Yet another game where the Bears were able to accumulate over 200 yards on the ground. Again, this running attack is built on the three-headed unit of Fields, Montgomery, and Herbert. Yet, Khalil Herbert is a winner because of how good he has actually been this year, specifically in this game.

David Montgomery is still the workhorse back of the Bears, but how great is it that Herbert comes into the game and provides just as much explosiveness and talent, if not more than Monty. He had 99 yards on the ground in this game to go along with a touchdown. While Montgomery struggled to find any big holes to run, Herbert’s speed and quickness allowed him to make some quick cuts and beat players to the edge. He is quite the athlete and is able to make players miss and run hard at the same time.

Montgomery and Herbert are such a great combo and they both feed off of each other’s success. It is truly a brotherhood between them, which is crucial to the momentum of the offense. Montgomery has conceded carries to Herbert as the Bears use a platoon in the backfield, and instead of moping and being selfish Montgomery cheers on his running mate when Herbert is in the game.

Khalil Herbert is making it seem that the Bears have two number-one backs on their roster. He can run and catch as good as many backs in the league. He might not be the biggest player, but he plays strong and fast. The decision to resign Monty in the offseason might be an interesting one.
