1. Could Chicago Bears get a pick for Sam Mustipher?
When the Chicago Bears were down 20 Matt Eberflus called time out to force the Cowboys to punt. Then, he put Dieter Eiselen in as the backup center and Trevor Siemian as the backup quarterback.
When asked about it, he said he wanted to get a look at some backup lineman, but Eiselen was the only one that got onto the field. Why did they want to get a look at Eiselen? While it makes sense that they pulled Justin Fields before that happened, perhaps they are getting calls for Sam Mustipher.
While many say Mustipher should be cut, at some point there has to be credit given for a UDFA who now has been a starting center for essentially two full seasons, half a year in 2022, and 2020, and a full season in 2021.
Teams have to look at that and think that there is at least value from a depth perspective. Not many people can start at center in the NFL, and even if he is not a top-tier starter, a playoff team desperate for a center could see value here.
This is another one where Ryan Poles has to see found money. Mustipher was a UDFA he did not see starting, but things happened and he was thrust into the role. If he can get any sort of conditional pick for Mustipher, it would be huge. Did they want to get Eisieln a few snaps at the end of the game because they already had received calls for Sam Mustipher?
