Just what should we expect from the Chase Claypool trade for the Chicago Bears

In closing, here is a link to a tweet I put out on October 31st where I suggested after trading Roquan Smith they should use some of their new trade capital to trade for Chase Claypool.

Six months ago in my Chicago Bears mock draft I also wrote that it would be the perfect pick in that draft to boost Justin Fields’ confidence and growth if they drafted a tall, fast, good-hands wide receiver with one of their second-round picks. Here is the key paragraph from this article regarding this issue: there is a hidden yet compelling reason why they absolutely should still draft a wide receiver with this pick and avoid the temptation of drafting an offensive lineman or defensive player here.

This leads us to what is Justin Fields’ strength as a quarterback. No, it is not his 4.4 speed and mobility. It is his long game and I don’t mean driving a golf ball. Fields is very good at using his considerable arm strength along with putting a nice arc on the ball to drop dimes to his pass targets.

Given this, ideally, the Chicago Bears need to add the best possible profile of a wide receiver built to complete as many long passes as possible. This profile includes height, special speed, jumping ability and quality hands that are proficient in grabbing contested catches.

After writing this mock draft and then posting it on Twitter many many times over the last six months, the Bears need to trade for a fast, tall, good-hands wideout, I became quite the self-satisfied Bears fan when Ryan Poles traded for Chase Claypool. Up until this trade, I had some serious doubts about Ryan Poles’ ability to prioritize what is best for his team.

However, after this trade, I believe the Chicago Bears new GM learned from his rookie mistake. That being, of course, not providing Justin Fields with anything near adequate support on offense. This trade also sent the message to his players that their GM truly cares about his QB’s immediate development and also that he is providing the players with a path to win games this season after losing two of their best defenders. That path is the Bears offense led by Justin Fields.

I expect that this upcoming Bears-Dolphins game will either become a game-filled shootout or have some stretches when it is a shootout. Chicago Bears fans, I hope you all enjoy the Chase Claypool as a Bear experience because I fully expect it to become an exciting new chapter for the Bears.
