Chicago Bears Most Improved: Kyler Gordon, CB

The start of Kyler Gordon’s career couldn’t have gone much worse. He looked a step slow in coverage in the opening contest against the 49ers before getting exposed against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in Week Two. While he still gave up a few big plays against Houston the following week, that was the first game where it looked like things were beginning to click for him. Since then, he has improved each week and seems primed to be a key contributor on the defense for years to come.

It would have been understandable if Gordon’s early-season struggles extended to his rookie year. The cornerback position historically takes a few years to master (although this rookie class seems like the exception to that rule), and the Washington product is learning to play the slot and on the perimeter. The way he has completely turned his season around and already looks like a much different player is nothing short of impressive.

The University of Washington has earned a reputation for churning out quality defensive backs, and Gordon looks primed to be the next in line to make a name for themselves in the league. He already looks like one of the defense’s best players, and it will be exciting to see how much better he becomes as he gets more comfortable in coverage.
