Chicago Bears Biggest Disappointment: Cole Kmet, TE

Calling Cole Kmet’s season a disappointment would be an understatement. This was the year he was finally supposed to put it all together and become one of the league’s best tight ends (or, at the very least, one of Fields’ top targets). Instead, it was more of the same for the Notre Dame product, as he failed to make much of an impact in the passing game and only has 159 yards thus far.

Kmet’s lack of production can partially be blamed on having to stay in to block more due to the issues the team has had up front, but he has also failed to separate and make contested catches that you would want to see your starting tight end make. While he still has time to get on the right track, he will need to get better at using his size to his advantage and learn how to gain more separation if he wants to reach his potential.

Despite possessing all the tools to be an elite tight end, Kmet has fallen well short of that expectation throughout his career. Chicago can safely add tight end to the list of team needs heading into 2023 if he cannot become more of a weapon in the passing game for the remainder of the year.
