Chicago Bears Stud No. 3: Jack Sandborn, LB

It was not a great day for the defense today. The Dolphins, specifically in the first three quarters, were able to get whatever they wanted on offense and the Bears were helpless to do anything about it. That being said, Jack Sandborn deserves to be on the winners list this week after his effort.

In his first start in the NFL, he was second on the team in tackles with seven total, only trailing Kyler Gordon. He stepped up when it mattered, and he brought the energy that we saw in the preseason. Sure, he made some rookie mistakes and got out of position in coverage on a few snaps. Still, he played with the “next-man-up” mentality and worked hard out there.

Jack Sandborn is the type of story that fans love. He went undrafted and then showed out in the preseason. He was playing behind a few linebackers on the depth chart and now gets a starting opportunity because of the Roquan Smith trade.

We know he has a knack for taking the football away and always plays hard. Sandborn is going to get a lot of time to play in the second half of this year, and with the Bears now in need of talent at the linebacker position, this will be his audition for a spot on next year’s team as more than a special teamer.

The Chicago Bears should be excited about the young talent they have on this team, especially on the offensive side of the ball. They are making these losses feel a lot better. Justin Fields is becoming a star this season and the guys around him are benefitting from his stellar play. Hopefully, the defense can do enough throughout the rest of the season to stay competitive in games.
